Hayama Marine Science Laboratory

This is a laboratory to study the aquatic environment. Aiming at an environmentally friendly society many kinds of scientific and engineering studies on preserving and restoring the aquatic environment can be carried out in the laboratory.

Outline

Hayama Marine Science Laboratory (the former Fishery Research Laboratory) was established in 1984, which facing Sagami Bay is located in Hayama Town, Kanagawa Prefecture. The laboratory is utilized to various technological research and development for preservation, restoration and creation of aquatic environment. The developed technologies are applied to constructions, designs, planning and consulting works. The facilities are also used for education and technical training.

Facilities

Many kinds of aquatics can be handled in the laboratory which has research facilities to control various environmental conditions both in sea water and in fresh water. The water quality measuring instruments are also equipped for field survey.

Various types of tanks are available for any kinds of aquatics and for their any stages of life.

Water filter tanks and storage tanks
30 tons per hours of seawater is being pumping up from the adjacent sea, and treated with sand filtration before supplying to organism rearing system.

Organism rearing room
The room is equipped with the environment control system which can control air temperature, illumination, humidity and water temperature.
