There are two wave flumes in the Hydraulics Laboratory. Various hydraulic model tests with appropriate reduced scales have been conducted in these flumes.
Outline
Details of the model tests such as deformation of waves and waves acting on the structures are observable through the tempered glass windows placed on the side wall of the flume.
In the middle-size wave flume, steady/unsteady flow as well as waves can be generated with the use of attached current generator.

Examples
Large-Size Wave Flume
With the large-size wave flume, we have carried out multitudes of two-dimensional hydraulic model tests examining wide variety of items: stability of wave dissipating blocks, wave force acting on structures, wave-induced displacement of structures, and so forth. Since the large-size wave flume is 2 meters in width, three-dimensional tests are also available for small-sized structures.
Furthermore, the wave maker can generate low frequency, arbitrarily shaped waves under the displacement control mode which enables us to carry out tsunami experiments as well.

Middle-Size Wave Flume
With the Middle-size wave flume, we have also carried out a wide variety of two dimensional experiments such as measurement of wave force acting on seawalls, measurement of overtopping rate of seawalls, and so on. The current generator can carry out the long-period wave experiment such as tsunami.
Because the width of the Middle-size wave flume is 0.7m, we can reduce materials, time, and costs for the experiment.
