Exhibit at Internet Expo  

Exhibit at Internet Expo (Inpak)
Inpak, the Internet world expo, commemorates the coming of the 21st century. The theme for Kajima's exhibit was "Cities and the Environment for New Millennium." It featured booths covering a wide range of new topics, and drew high acclaim as a result. The Kajima exhibit received the Editor's Choice Award, and the 3rd quarter International Prize.

 

Kajima's Hotel de Maya PFI Project Opens
Japan's first tourism PFI project, a public accommodation facility operated by Kajima, has opened in Nada Ward in Kobe. Closed since the Kobe earthquake, the facility has been remodeled along the lines of a southern European lodge. It is expected that the accommodation facility will help revitalize tourism in the region.

Production Center to Improve Construction Production Efficiency
The Production Center has been newly established within the Architectural and Engineering Design Division to facilitate sharing of a consistent data base at all stages of a project, from design to construction. The Center uses the Kajima-developed DB-CAD technology, and aims to rationalize and increase the efficiency of construction production.

 
The Mubarak-Peace Bridge  

The Only Bridge Across the Suez Canal The Mubarak-Peace Bridge (a Joint Japan-Egypt Friendship Initiative) Opens to Traffic
After three and a half years in construction, the bridge, which may well come to be called the Middle East Peace Bridge, has been completed using Japanese ODA funds. Kajima worked with NKK and Nippon Steel to carry out the major works.

 

Fuel Cell Power Generation Verification Trial of Kajima-Developed Metakles Technology
Kajima has built a fuel cell power generation plant utilizing bio-gas from organic waste. The plant is located on Portopia Island in Kobe, and is part of a Ministry of the Environment initiative to implement practical countermeasures to global warming. A Kajima-developed process is applied to the fermentation of raw waste. The bio-gas generated is used to generate electricity, and it is this system that is being verified.

Rooftop Garden on KI Building  

Rooftop Garden on KI Building Opened to Public
Greening rooftops is seen as one possible solution to the heat island phenomenon observed in urban areas. A rooftop garden has been established atop the KI Building. It is a compilation of associated technologies developed by Kajima, and features a range of greening technologies appropriate to every type of roof structure or budget.

 

7th Kajima Sculpture Contest
Japan's only indoor sculpture competition this year featured the theme "Sculpture, Construction and Space." The Kajima Sculpture Competition is a gateway to success for aspiring new sculptors. From among 338 works, including pieces submitted from outside Japan, 15 were chosen for exhibition.

Ghibli Museum  

Ghibli Museum in Mitaka Opens
A new museum has opened in the Inokashira Onshi Park in Mitaka, in outer Tokyo. The museum's curator is anime director Hayao Miyazaki, known for several works including Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi). The building itself has been fashioned on a maze, which may lure visitors into losing their way. It is a space designed to make the visitor play the lead role in his or her own movie.
