Kajima manages most civil engineering projects directly from Japan, while it maintains regional subsidiaries in the United States, Asia and Europe to handle building construction and development projects in those areas. Revenues from all overseas operations during the financial year to March 2005 totaled ¥235.05 billion.
Market Situation and Performance
1. Kajima U.S.A. Inc. (KUSA)
The construction business in North America and Hawaii was awarded contracts totaling ¥78.1 billion. The real estate development business continued to be strong, bolstered by development of warehouse distribution facilities. The Hualalai Resort in Hawaii, operated by Kajima, also showed strong performance.
2. Kajima Overseas Asia Pte Ltd (KOA)
The construction business in Southeast Asia is facing increasing fierce competition, but Kajima anticipates steady growth for its business in the region on account of the high regard given for the quality of its local construction projects, such as large-scale public works projects in Singapore and elsewhere. The development business returned strong results in its leasing and operation of offices, hotels and shopping malls.
3. Chung-Lu Sino-Kajima Construction Co., Ltd. (Sino-Kajima)
Sino-Kajima undertook several projects for buildings, such as high-rise condominiums with advanced seismic control technology, as well as numerous electronics production facilities. The number and scale of contracts won by Sino-Kajima has grown in recent years, placing its growth on par with that of major Taiwanese construction companies.
4. Kajima Europe B.V. (KE)
Kajima Europe focuses on construction and development mainly in the U.K., with a particular concentration on private finance initiatives (PFI) awarded by the central and municipal governments. The construction business in continental Europe is concentrated mainly in Poland and the Czech Republic.
5. Overseas Operations Managed from Japan
Kajima expects to continue to be awarded Official Development Assistance (ODA) dcontracts in Southeast Asia and Africa, for which it has a strong track record of accomplishments, along with large-scale infrastructure projects in Taiwan and elsewhere.
