Situated in an area that was formerly a shipbuilding dock near the Universal Studios Japan theme park, this live music venue mainly caters to standing audiences. The project brief included the requirement that it be robust enough to handle any type of live music event as the largest hall in the Zepp-branded franchise. The key design point was to prevent vibration from leaking to surrounding buildings, even if the capacity audience of 2,800 was jumping up and down. Extensive tests to measure and analyze vibrations resulted in the use of a special type of foundation, incorporating piles and ultra-thick mat slabs. Based on Kajima’s experience in designing other Zepp halls, a range of innovations were applied. These include a backstage artists’ area with a terrace that has a sea view. The design of the entrance foyer’s exterior is particularly impressive.
