Tama Art University Art-Theque
Tama Art University Art-Theque

As part of the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the founding of Tama Art University, this building―constructed on the site of the former university library―is the culmination of the Hachioji Campus project. Facing the campus’s art museum, Art-Theque is a general art center where users can view, touch, research, and interact with art, designs, objets d’art, as well as related materials. The exterior finish is made of the same precast reinforced concrete(RC) as the other campus buildings. Featuring bare RC, the interior achieves overall harmony with indirect lighting, and provides a neutral space in which the art, designs, and other materials are the main focus of attention. Visitors to Art-Theque are greeted by a seven meter overhang that protrudes from the slope of the campus’s highest hill. This feature comprises vertically and horizontally arranged glass cubes set in RC.
