Kanagawa Institute of Technology Nursing Building
Kanagawa Institute of Technology Nursing Building

Accompanying the addition of a school of nursing, this project involved the construction of training classrooms and research laboratories in the southern corner of the campus’s central square. While retaining the tone of the existing buildings that face onto the square, the new facility aims to express its own unique features. The third to fifth floors —with standard individual windows and a different exterior texture compared with the lower two floors—have a look that engenders a feeling of quiet and exudes a degree of cleanliness that is admirably suited to a nursing faculty. In contrast, the first and second floors include a double-height pilot is corridor, strengthening the continuity with other buildings. The first floor has two glass-walled nurse-training classrooms and a lecture theater, while the second floor has a lounge where sash window sensure excellent air flow.
