Meiji Gakuin University Takanawa Building
Meiji Gakuin University Takanawa Building

Built to house Meiji Gakuin University's Graduate Law School and Clinical Psychology Center, the complex integrates Law School facilities previously dispersed in several locations, and aims to bolster Psychology Faculty facilities used by students studying to become medical psychologists. The layout delineates each function while providing a high degree of flexibility.
The building inherits the design essence of such important architectural works as the Meiji Gakuin Shirokane Chapel (designed by W. M. Vories & Company Architects Ichiryusha) and the Shirokane Campus Palette Zone facilities (designed by Shozo Uchii), and builds on the design identity. It features: (1) a volume contrast created by a square body and sharp roof structure; (2) a contrast between the exterior architectural concrete (convex joints) and galvalume steel sheets; and (3) a contrast between interior materials created by the oak flooring and architectural concrete walls.
