Located on Omote-sando Street, famous in Japan for its luxury-brand stores, this building was designed for lease as the flagship store for a major sporting goods maker. The developers sought a very rational, efficient and flexible structure that would harmonize with buildings in the area and appeal to passersby. We came up with a compact floor plan and facilities design; a column-free store interior; and added value for the building by using to advantage the 30m of the site facing the keyaki (zelkova) trees lining Omote-sando Street. To have a wide frontage with a clear facade, we used a 26m span between columns, and a glass wall to enhanced the sense of transparency and bring together the interior of the store and the street outside. The high-impact shop window displays have added a valuable new feature to the street's landscape.
