In October 2008, Kyowa Hakko Kogyo Co., Ltd. and Kirin Pharma Company, Limited merged to form Kyowa Hakko Kirin Co., Ltd. This project will provide a new Kyowa Hakko Kirin pharmaceutical discovery research center on the site of the BioFrontier Laboratories, which will be dismantled in stages, so that research can continue uninterrupted.
Because the center is located in a densely populated residential area, it will be surrounded by a lush greenbelt and given a solid facade with few windows. The structures are designed to appear low and relatively small. The facilities center on an inner garden that takes advantage of the terrain's differences in elevation, and comprise an entrance building, a research building, and an administration building. The design reinforces the security of the facility, while at the same time creating an attractive space for communication.
