Kodansha Mejirodai Building & Mejirodai dormitory
Kodansha Mejirodai Building & Mejirodai dormitory

To mark the centenary of Kodansha Ltd., the publisher's office building and dormitory for single employees were designed on a site adjacent to the head office and separated from it by the metropolitan expressway. Since the office building tenants include financial institutions, the structure fulfills the requirements of business continuity planning (BCP). The base isolation method of construction was used to protect the facility in the case of major earthquakes, and emergency power generators and other backup systems that operate independently for 72 hours are provided, as well as advanced support for dealing operations. The exterior, blending in with the head office complex and the residential neighborhood, incorporates deep-set, randomly spaced windows, the changing shadows of which alter the appearance of the building. A biotope space has been included to enhance the area's rich ecological network.
