Kajima Technical Research Institute, Research and Administration Building
Kajima Technical Research Institute, Research and Administration Building

This building is the core facility within the Kajima Technical Research Institute. The project incorporates offices for 300 researchers, and aimed to realign and reintegrate existing facilities that were dispersed and aging. The new building connects to the Laboratory Building—completed in 2008—via an underground passageway, enabling unified operation. It employs a simple overall design featuring an earthquake-resisting wall along the east-west axis and a five-story podium, topped by a steel-framed penthouse. An aperture occupies the entire south-facing side, providing a feeling of unity with the Laboratory Building on the opposite side of the main avenue. A full-flat-slab construction method was employed for the main structure, which contributed to efficient construction and cost reduction. Based on thorough analysis of researcher work styles and collaboration from specialist researchers, the plan was modified to ensure excellent environmental performance and user functionality.
