Century Forest
Century Forest

This was a renewal project that replaced a 50-year-old public housing complex with a condominium featuring a base-isolated structure. Kajima collaborated from the stage of negotiations with the landowner, and was involved in an integrated process from project planning to design and construction. Although the site is within walking distance of Tokyo's bustling Shibuya station, it is blessed with a spacious environment featuring rich greenery and several low-rise residential buildings. The project called for a total of 244 condominium units spread over six buildings, while retaining the site's attractive features. The layout gathers the residential buildings onto the center of the site surrounding a main courtyard, providing a buffer from adjacent roads and lots. An eight-meter wide, 160m-long pedestrian space featuring a large variety of tree species provides a refreshing forest-like space that utilizes the site's existing environmental advantages.
