This is the new head office building for GC Corporation, a maker of dental hygiene equipment. To celebrate its 90th anniversary, the company wanted to create a new center for communication with its customers. The central design feature is an open stairway connecting all floors. This facilitates communication among the floors on which offices are located, and creates open guest areas on the upper floors, where customers can move freely and see the latest in dental products and technology. The facade, facing Hongo-dori Avenue, features a bead-blasted stainless steel frame. Differences in the interior functions of the building are reflected in the variation of the floor heights of the exterior frame, a feature that creates a structure that is rigid yet rhythmical, dignified yet with a strong presence that is not lost among the other neighborhood structures.
