The Nittsu Shoji head office stands where the company’s warehouses formerly was, in the Takeshiba district of Minato Ward, Tokyo. The project, utilizing the city’s integrated residential planning system, includes housing. The tower, facing the cityscape on all sides, comprises granite-covered, pre-cast concrete columns and high-performance, low-emissivity glass. The design of the office and residential parts of the building are integrated, while the column form and narrow eaves produce a shaded, three-dimensional effect on the exterior appearance. With windows on three sides and no interior columns, the offices and residences are user-friendly. To enhance safety, durability, environment-related performance, and modifiability, the building incorporates such cutting-edge features as seismic control using oil dampers, a high-performance exterior, a rooftop photovoltaic panels, LED lighting throughout, gas heat pumps, and features to ensure business can function in emergencies.
