Nihonbashi TI Building
Nihonbashi TI Building

This mid-scale tenanted office project in Tokyo’s central Nihonbashi district focused on commercial characteristics and a high level of planning efficiency. Its themes also included harmony with the surrounding cityscape while expressing its own identity. The façade’s use of stone is in keeping with the area’s existing design preference, and the visible portion features a rhythmical layout of granite and individual windows on an exterior that has road frontage on three sides. The spandrel portion narrows significantly and includes air intake and exhaust facilities as well as a smoke extraction function. Together, this design produces a proportionality based on the floor layering. Within the cityscape flow created by the large-scale development of the surrounding area, the building’s impressive three-dimensional expression and silhouette emphasize a sense of permanence and dignity.
