Kyowa Hakko Kirin Fuji Research Park IK8

This research laboratory stands within Fuji Research Park, by the Ose River. As part of the client’s realignment plan stemming from the merger of Kyowa Hakko and Kirin Pharma, the company wished to combine its Chemical Process Research and Development Laboratories (Osaka) and Drug Discovery Research Laboratories (Mishima). By reorganizing the laboratories and offices of these facilities, the client aimed to stimulate communication, enhance operational efficiency, and promote better research outcomes. With the results of a survey of researchers analyzed ergonomically and reflected in the project plan, offices overlooking the river and with views of Mt. Fuji are integrated with lines of flow and communication space, taking into account the proximity of laboratories. A mechanical void behind the laboratories allows for maintenance and future refurbishment. The exterior design sets the building apart from others in the Fuji Research Park.
