TOH-TEN-KOH

Since opening in 1961 next to Shinobazu Pond in Tokyo’s Ueno district, Totenko restaurant has developed with the surrounding area. The new complex, having inherited the former restaurant’s ties to the local community and its long tradition of hospitality, aims to develop further. Having the same seismic safety standards as a grade-one government facility, and the potential to fulfill local disaster-management functions, the complex has cogeneration facilities and is provided with other key business continuity and environment-related functions. The external appearance is in harmony with the streetscape, and aspires to becoming a new city symbol. Each part of the complex instills the feeling of a special occasion: the second-floor entrance away from the noise of the busy main road; the seventh-floor chapel with views of Tokyo Skytree; and the top-floor restaurant where nature abounds in the heart of the metropolis.
