This was a renewal project for a combined junior and senior high school located in central Tokyo. Construction took place as students continued to attend classes in existing buildings. The new structure utilizes high rise and underground spaces to maximize the floor space available and provide a smooth transition. The move to a high-rise design increased the amount of open space on campus, transforming it into a rich green environment to complement the neighboring Gokokuji Temple. The sixth-floor atrium—featuring abundant windows and skylights—has unhindered views in all directions, creating a bright classroom atmosphere and comfortable space. The atrium includes a common space, as well as escalators, which function as the main route for movement. The building’s various levels incorporate diverse facilities, from classrooms and staff rooms to an arena and swimming pool, together offering a strong feeling of unity.
