Iwakichi Kajima begins business in Masakicho, Nakabashi, Edo (present day Tokyo)

1860

Kajima pioneers the first Western-style buildings, Ei-Ichiban Kan (English House No. 1) and America-Ichiban Kan (American House No. 1), in Yokohama

1880

Kajima Gumi established
Headquartered in Kobikicho, Kyobashi, Tokyo, Kajima is now led by Iwazo Kajima as its first head
Enters into the railway construction business, starting with the construction of the Tsuruga Railway Line (later called the Yanagase Line)

Enters into the dam and power plant construction business, starting with the Uji River hydroelectric power station

Completes the Siadanshui River Iron Bridge in Taiwan

Construction begins for the Tanna Tunnel (west exit site)
