The project involved rebuilding a branch office for paper products manufacturer Yamazakura Co., Ltd. Key objectives included enhancement of business efficiency; provision of a creative, comfortable work environment; an appearance that would fit with the greenery and residential usage of the central Tokyo location; and a design communicating the Yamazakura brand. The design produced an impressive exterior that includes a diagonal roofline. The structure has a limited impact on neighboring properties, ensuring optimal daylight, controlling the visual lines from the surrounding area, and realizing a pleasant work space with views of the adjacent park’s greenery. The meandering flow of movement in the edifice continues to the street, giving visitors a warm welcome. Meanwhile, the building’s contour brings to mind the business card, one of Yamazakura’s top products. Named Sakura Gallery, the building reflects Yamazakura’s desire that the facility be in harmony with the local community.
