For this project to refurbish an aging baseball ground within Hirosaki Sports Park, Kajima submitted an integrated proposal covering design and construction. In addition to functioning as the clubhouse for the whole park, the main stand is a disaster management coordination center for Hirosaki municipality.
Based on the concept of a ballpark open to its surroundings, the design merges the outfield bleachers into the park’s landscape, as has been the case with similar Kajima projects. The layout is becoming the norm for public ballparks in Japan. The clubhouse’s triangular silhouette is reminiscent of Mount Iwaki, symbol of the Tsugaru region, while the design of the lighting tower was inspired by the distinctive shape of the plectrum of a Tsugaru shamisen (Japanese three-stringed instrument).
Extra lighting towers were added to enable professional baseball league games to be played at the park.
