Eleven finalist works selected from among 175 applicants through the first screening were exhibited at the venue. Members of the judging committee consisted of Manabu Chiba (Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, University of Tokyo), Hideyuki Nakayama (Associate Professor, Tokyo University of the Arts), Noriaki Yamada (CEO, Yamada Noriaki Structural Design Office), and Chie Konno (Associate Professor, Kyoto Institute of Technology), joined by the architects Fumihiko Maki and Kengo Kuma, who acted as Advisors again this year.

Prior to the start of the event, an opening reception was held on September 14, where members of the judging committee and Kengo Kuma spoke about the importance of the SD Review and presented messages to the finalists. Related parties who attended the reception also enthusiastically looked at the creative, innovative works and enjoyed listening to and talking with the finalists in a relaxed atmosphere.

At a later date, winners of the Maki Prize, Kajima Prize, Asakura Prize, and SD Prize will be selected from among the finalists and will be announced in "SD 2023," scheduled to be issued in December 2023, accompanied by the details of the winners' works and comments from the members of the judging committee.
