Kajima Tohoku Branch receives a certificate of gratitude for its 15-year-long initiative of delivering on-site classes

  • Education for the next generation

Since fiscal 2008, Kajima Tohoku Branch has been delivering on-site science classes to elementary school students in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. For the past 15 years, the branch has held classes for 4,707 elementary school students at 69 schools.

In fiscal 2023, the branch delivered on-site classes to 512 students at seven schools under the Sendai City Special Science Class program, where the city of Sendai invites companies, researchers, and others to deliver lectures. In February 2024, in recognition of these initiatives, the Sendai Board of Education presented the branch with a certificate of gratitude for contributing to the Sendai Special Science Class program as a guest lecturer.

In the class titled "Pendulum Reduces the Intensity of Earthquake Shaking," the lecturer introduced earthquake resistance, seismic damping, and isolation technologies, explained the laws of a pendulum utilized for the vibration control technology by using laboratory instruments that resemble buildings, and asked each student to think of ways to reduce the intensity of the shaking. The employee who gave the lecture said, "It would be great if the students became interested in the construction industry through the classes. The elementary school students' genuine reactions keep me motivated to continue holding on-site classes."
