The SD Review 2024, hosted by Kajima Institute Publishing Co., Ltd., was held at Daikanyama Hillside Terrace (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) from September 13 to 22, 2024, attracting 3,471 visitors. The exhibition, first conceived in 1982 by the late architect Fumihiko Maki (who passed away in June 2024), showcases architectural drawings and models of buildings, landscapes, and interiors. Open to the public, submissions are limited to works under design or under construction, intended for actual implementation. In recent years, entries have also come from abroad, and the exhibition has established itself as a gateway for young architects.

Thirteen finalist works, selected from 177 submissions through the first screening, were exhibited at the venue. The judging committee consisted of Jun Aoki (Director, Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art), Hideyuki Nakayama (Professor, Tokyo University of the Arts), Noriaki Yamada (CEO, Yamada Noriaki Structural Design Office), and Chie Konno (Associate Professor, Kyoto Institute of Technology). Architect Kengo Kuma again served as an advisor, following on from last year together with the late Fumihiko Maki.

Prior to the start of the event, an opening reception was held on September 12, where the judges and Kengo Kuma spoke about the significance of the SD Review and presented messages to the finalists. At the venue, the finalists also passionately shared their ideas and commitment behind their creative and innovative works.

From October 3 to 26, a Kyoto exhibition was held for the first time in five years at the Museum and Archives of the Kyoto Institute of Technology (Sakyo-ku, Kyoto).

Winners of the Maki Prize, Kajima Prize, Asakura Prize, and SD Prize will be selected from among the finalists. Their prize-winning and finalist works, along with commentary from the judging committee, will be published in SD 2024, scheduled for release in December 2024.
