Kajima Continues to Support the Tree Planting Action Project for World Bee Day (May 20)

  • Community support
  • Environmental preservation

For the second consecutive year, Kajima participated in the Tree Planting Action Project, an initiative promoting environmental conservation and biodiversity.*1 This project was launched in connection with World Bee Day (May 20), an international day designated by the United Nations. It encourages companies, groups, and individuals to take small actions for environmental conservation in order to help preserve the natural environment and biodiversity for future generations.

As the next step in the initiative, participants planted seedlings of Pinogirl, a small watermelon variety that serves as a nectar source for bees, as well as four varieties of edible flowers, and sowed soybean seeds. During lunch breaks on May 13 and 25, 2026, approximately 100 employees took part in the activities at Akasaka Nouen,*2 a rooftop vegetable garden on the Kajima KI Building (Minato-ku, Tokyo), creating a lively atmosphere. Spending time outdoors and working with the soil under blue skies provided a refreshing break from work and a sense of openness that made participants forget they were in the middle of a major city.

On the day of the event, participants carefully planted each watermelon and edible flower seedling, taking care not to damage the roots. For the soybeans, they sowed two varieties of seeds: Yuagari Musume, the same variety planted last year, and Tappuri, a new variety expected to produce an abundant harvest. After gently covering the seeds with soil, participants pressed the soil down firmly to prevent it from drying out and finished by placing plant labels next to their plantings. Everyone is looking forward to seeing how the plants grow in the coming months and hopes that many bees will visit the garden.

*1 Tree Planting Action Project
This project was launched by the TBS CSR Promotion Office alongside Yamada Bee Farm with the aim of promoting environmental conservation and biodiversity. Sparked by International Bee Day, the project seeks to initiate small-scale actions that companies, groups, and individuals can take for environmental conservation, such as planting trees to increase the number of locations where bees can collect nectar for their survival.

*2 Akasaka Nouen
Part of the roof area of the Kajima KI Building has been converted into a vegetable garden as part of activities to reduce environmental impact (by saving energy and absorbing CO2) while also promoting employees' health (through relaxation and interpersonal exchange).
