The public facility complex houses the new government building to integrate the functions of the old decentralized and deteriorating facilities, with a new gymnasium serving as a base for promoting regional vitalization and well-being through sports. The two facilities are connected by communal spaces, such as the Galleria and Komorebi Terrace, so they can be utilized together as one space to supplement each other’s functions. The arena has a roof of beam string structure and an outer perimeter aisle plan providing spectator seats closer to the court level, enhancing the sense of unity and presence. The building is effectively illuminated by clerestories to increase visibility and create a space with a natural flow guided by light. The horizontal building volume and the galleria with a gently arcing façade of continuous vertical rectangles form an expansive scenery that responds to the surrounding area. In addition to creating a facility serving as the municipal hub/disaster prevention center, the city hall complex realizes a vibrant public space open to the citizens.
