This project focused on building the development center of Komatsu Ltd.—one of the world's top construction machinery manufacturers. Located near Osaka, the center required facilities commensurate with a unified research environment able to cater to the Komatsu Group's operations and divisions worldwide. The proposal aimed to respond to the client's promotion of visualization of its corporate identity, and pursued a new type of workplace that expressed a rational, open space. The workspace created is free of columns and offers a simple, neutral interior freedom. Cascading voids provide visual lines straddling levels and contribute to natural lighting and ventilation. The facade utilizes a precast concrete frame that unifies structure and functionality. The layout aims to create a high-quality space open to the town by placing a rigid facade within an area that features expansive water and greenery stretching from the site's main entrance.
