This is the student dormitory at academically renowned La Salle High School. Not only had the old dormitory spread to several other buildings as the school expanded, but dealing with the school’s aging symbol had been a longstanding issue. The new dormitory plan once again integrated the facility into a single building. With this school tradition able to continue, the new residence for 600 junior and senior high school students is being managed by a dean. The plan’s key themes included maximizing the advantages of having a single edifice, and giving form to relationships that will help students adapt to living away from their families. The square layout of the building, with its central courtyard, emphasizes the importance of relationships among students and members of staff. The design strives to optimize the comforts of communal living and the structure’s functionality.
