A newspaper's mission is to deliver information without ever being late. To help accomplish this, the project is near two expressway ramps in central Tokyo. It is designed to occupy every inch of the property and, in many ways, is quite different from a conventional newspaper printing facility. Thus we defined the company's requirements early on, before taking our time to identify and create the right environment.
For the facility to be an efficient printing plant and create minimum noise and vibrations outside, the structure was designed with few openings. The exterior finish and signage were made to harmonize with the neighborhood, greenery was added, and a small pocket park was created. A light well was constructed adjacent to the cafeteria to enhance the wellbeing of plant employees, and noise absorption techniques were applied to improve the production environment.
