This was a large-scale reconstruction project to replace Koriyama City's 57-year-old baseball stadium in Kaiseizan Park. The project was a complete package, from design to construction, and included various facility repairs. When completed it all blended harmoniously into the original park, so the project will probably be a model for the reconstruction of other stadiums.
The large roof-like stand extending over the main stand forms a concourse connecting the original spectator stands and extending out into the park to become a promenade. Kaiseizan's historic cherry trees, as well as much of the original stadium were preserved, resulting in a wide open stadium fully integrated into the park. It has already become very popular among the locals, and the large roof stand floating above a sea of cherry blossoms is certain to become a new symbol of Koriyama City.
