The Fujieda plant is one of the world's largest, a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical production facility. The design concept for this next-generation plant revolved around three main ideas: multi-purpose, solid dosage manufacturing to allow for numerous types of drugs to be produced with the same equipment; high-potency substance containment for strong drug efficacy in small doses; and base-isolation structure sufficient to withstand the next major Tokai earthquake. At the heart of the facility is a flexible manufacturing space (measuring 83 meters by 50 meters) free of supporting pillars, surrounded by manufacturing support areas for quality control and shipping, a multistory automated warehouse and a machinery room. The exterior has the same dynamic styling as the manufacturing lines contained within, while at the same time is delicate and inviting. The plant is visible from both the Tokaido Shinkansen and Tomei Expressway, making it a symbol of the company and new landmark for the community.
