This manufacturing facility for printer-related chemical products is located in a hilly area in the outskirts of Oita City. In accordance with a cler zoning master plan, the facility design is very simple, and achieves a complete separation between people and motor vehicles. The axis of the structure is a shared main hallway that provides lovely views of the surrounding forest and a distant mountain range. To ensure safety in the event of a large earthquake, and in conformity with the company's Business Continuity Plan (BCP), the portion of the structure that houses a large-scale electronic device fabrication plant with clean room facilities was constructed using the multi-story, base isolation construction method. Further, a diverse range of environmental measures was also implemented, including conversion of the regulating ponds on the site to biotopes in order to protect the local ecosystem. The external structure was finished with the same materials used in all other Canon plants. The combination of accent colors achieves a simple, clean-cut design.
