This laboratory is a drug discovery and research facility owned by a pharmaceutical manufacturer. By incorporating the design code of the adjoining laboratories, the new laboratory’s façade design is in keeping with that of the area. In addition, by utilizing the existing landscape between neighboring buildings as a promenade, the plan has provided a communication focus while setting the scene for possible future developments. The interior includes spaces for intellectual cross-pollination among researchers as they move around the building. These areas are intended to promote casual interaction and help enhance the laboratory’s intellectual productivity. In particular, the Skip-up Garden, which includes the stairwell area between floors, was planned as a space to draw in the researchers. It encompasses communication space on the stairwell landing and a rooftop garden.
