For over half a century, the Tonets Corporation head office has stood in the Kyobashi district of central Tokyo. When the company—a manufacturer of HVAC and plumbing equipment—embarked on a renewal project, it wanted to harness its specialized technology to create a “model mid-sized, central-city office building with a small CO2 footprint.” In addition to radiation/convection combined air-conditioning, the building includes a window-opening navigation system for natural ventilation, Tonets’ proprietary wet air-conditioning for winter humidification, and other innovative environmental technologies. These features provide a comfortable office environment. The aluminum louver façade, which offers a wide range of shading angles, expresses Tonets’ involvement with air flow, while helping to reduce the interior heat load. We hope the building’s expression of the changing seasons will softly blend into the Kyobashi cityscape to symbolize Tonets’ corporate values.
