This distribution center sits in the hilly periphery of the Musashino Plain, which retains a thriving natural environment. The center distributes goods to MUJI stores and directly to customers in the greater Tokyo area. In addition to boosting efficiency and capacity, the project also anticipated future expansion needs. It boasts substantial flexibility through such features as a double-deck truck bay zone, with functions separated by level, wide spans, high stories, and full shutters. Sophisticated safety features include grade-separated crossings for people and trucks, a sprinkler system, and a sizeable rest area. Adhering to the corporate slogan, “Nature, Naturally, MUJI.” the center has the mission of “giving back to the countryside forest, the region and the Earth.” Environmental contributions by the project include land and works donated to a heritage pathway program, and biotope remediation work on an adjoining pond.
