The Mainichi Newspapers Metropolitan Regional Center Ebina Factory
The Mainichi Newspapers Metropolitan Regional Center Ebina Factory

This is the Mainichi newspaper company's Tokyo area printing plant. In addition to newspapers, the advanced facility is also capable of handling commercial printing jobs. The layout features twin rotary press lines, separated by a support zone that includes a stockyard for paper storage, a packaging and shipping area, and a machine room, all designed to efficiently support the work of the two rotary presses. This distinctive layout is reflected also in the structural design and external appearance of the building. The building site is in an area containing buried cultural properties, so the scale of excavations that could be carried out during construction was limited. As a result a hanging-type canopy structure was used over the truck yard, adding a light touch to the front facade.
