This project is for an established manufacturer, in business for over a century, that is relocating its head office building to Urayasu. The three-story, low-rise building is in a residential area. The design, reflecting the client's desire for an office environment emphasizing internal communication, has an atrium in the center, a concentration of traffic flow around elevators and open staircases, and a real sense of connectedness linking the floors. Ever-changing streams of sunlight flood the atrium through sculpted skylights, giving the interior a sense of liveliness. The structure comprises precast columns at intervals of 1.8m, cast-in-place reinforced concrete beams, and a deep facade achieved using large-aperture, sashless glass windows. The design makes optimum use of the afternoon light and controls direct light, providing harmony and a sense of scale to blend with the surroundings and the outside view.
