Laboratories & Facilities
Ocean & Hydraulics
The hydraulic facilities include a large wave basin and two wave flumes, all of which can reproduce waves close to nature with one of the best performances in Japan.
They are used for a wide range of R&D aiming at planning, design, construction, and maintenance of structures in the ocean, coastal areas, rivers, and waterways.

Large-size Wave Basin
L58m×W20m×H1.6m
Allows accurate reproduction of ocean waves and tsunami

Irregular Wave Flume
L62m×W2m×H2m
Allows vertically two-dimensional hydraulic tests as well as three-dimensional hydraulic tests for a small-scale structure

Multi-Wave Flume
L60m×W1.2m×H1.5m
Allows various vertically two-dimensional hydraulic tests such as tests for wave overtopping rate and wave force effects onto structures

Wave Basin
The large wave basin is equipped with piston-type multi-directional irregular wave makers and pump-type tsunami wave maker. This can demonstrate wave force acting on marine and coastal structures. The motion of floating bodies, such as working vessels, can be investigated as well.
Multi-Wave Flume
The multi-type flume is capable of reproducing both wind-seas and tsunamis. Using this facility, we can evaluate the wave force acting on marine structures and buildings.
