Kajima has introduced a wide range of systems and initiatives to help employees achieve work-life balance and enhance individual productivity. These measures support the balance between work and family responsibilities (such as childcare andcaregiving), as well as personal development, health maintenance, and personal interests.
We fully support employees and their families as they prepare for childbirth. We provide medical appointment leave, prenatal leave, a flex-time short-hour work system, as well as exemptions from overtime and holiday work, enabling employees to balance work and childbirth preparation with confidence. We also offer spousal childbirth leave to support employees in welcoming a new family member.
Employees can take leave to attend necessary medical checkups during pregnancy.
Prenatal leave is available from six weeks prior to the expected date of delivery (or 14 weeks prior in the case of multiple pregnancies).
This system is available when a physician advises changes to regular working hours (8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.).
Pregnant employees can request an exemption from overtime, late-night, and holiday work.
This leave is provided to support hospitalization and discharge related to a spouse’s childbirth and to enable employees to participate in childcare.
Kajima supports employees in balancing work and childcare by offering a robust set of programs—including childcare leave, nursing leave, and family support leave—to help secure time for raising children. We also provide company-led childcare centers, encourage the use of babysitter discount vouchers, and operate our own childcare facility. Through flexible work arrangements, we provide an environment in which employees raising children can build their careers with confidence.
An increasing number of employees are raising children while continuing to work by utilizing childcare leave and leave at childbirth, as well as telework, the flex-time short-hour work system, nursing leave, and family support leave.
Furthermore, accumulated unused annual paid leave that could not be carried over can be used during childcare leave. As a result, the number of male employees taking childcare leave has been increasing, and each year more male employees are actively participating in childcare by utilizing the flex-time short-hour work system.
Upon request, childcare leave is available regardless of the reason until a child reaches two years of age, and it can be taken in up to two separate periods. The flex-time short-hour work system for childcare is available until a child completes the sixth grade of elementary school, and the short-hour work system is available until a child reaches three years of age.
Nursing leave is available to care for a child up to the end of the third grade of elementary school in cases of illness or injury; to accompany a child for vaccinations or health checkups; or to attend events such as school closures due to infectious diseases, entrance ceremonies, or graduation ceremonies. Employees can take five or ten days per fiscal year, and the leave is paid within the limit of accumulated unused annual paid leave.
Since 2021, this leave has also been available on an hourly basis.
Family support leave is available to assist family members in situations such as hospitalization or medical visits; to support family members with disabilities; or to respond to other circumstances requiring consideration (such as a child’s school refusal or support for victims of crime). This leave can be paid within the limit of accumulated unused annual paid leave, and it can be taken in half-day units.
Family support leave had previously been available for infertility treatment; however, to improve convenience and enable employees to take leave with confidence, Kajima established Birth Support Leave (special leave) in April 2023.
Kajima supports employees even when they need to care for family members. Employees can use caregiving leave and short-term caregiving leave flexibly, and flexible working arrangements make it possible to work in ways that fit different life stages. We provide a robust set of systems that enable employees to balance caregiving and work.
Kajima’s caregiving–related systems are well developed, and caregiving leave, caregiving absence, and caregiving leave of absence can be used in combination.
For employees caring for family members within the second degree of kinship, Kajima offers a flex-time short-hour work system that combines flextime with reduced working hours. Together with our telework system, these programs enable flexible work arrangements that support balancing work and caregiving
Short-term caregiving leave of five or ten days per fiscal year is paid within the limit of accumulated unused annual paid leave, as with nursing leave. Since 2021, this leave has also been available on an hourly basis.
At Kajima, we not only develop systems and regulations, but also strengthen our foundation through education that fosters a supportive corporate culture and work environment. Training programs tailored to specific themes—such as women’s career development and balancing work with childcare and caregiving—are also provided.
As part of our social contribution activities, Kajima undertakes various initiatives to help young people learn about not only our company, but also the construction industry from an early stage.
