Kajima Group Biodiversity Policy
In August 2005, the company formulated the Kajima Action Plan for Ecosystem Conservation. Kajima made significant revisions to the Plan, renaming it the Kajima Biodiversity Guidelines in July 2009 and the Kajima Group Biodiversity Policy in April 2025.
Pledges
- Kajima pledges for all its employees to place importance on the sustainability of biodiversity and natural capital to create a society where people and nature co-exist through activities in harmony with nature while respecting the cultural aspects of these activities.
- With the goal of creating a society where people and nature co-exist, Kajima pledges to provide and engage in the research and development of goods and services to reduce adverse impact and increase positive impact on biodiversity and natural capital both inside and outside Japan. Kajima also pledges to contribute to the conservation and restoration of biodiversity and natural capital (nature positive) throughout its entire supply chain.
- Kajima pledges to work on the conservation and restoration of biodiversity and natural capital, recognizing that these are both global and local issues. While considering the supply chain and product life cycles, Kajima will focus on the conservation and restoration of biodiversity and natural capital, actively pursuing approaches that create synergistic effects with the fields of decarbonization and recycling, while being mindful of strategies that may create trade-offs.
- Kajima pledges to actively disclose information and also improve and advance its efforts to conserve and restore biodiversity and natural capital through communication with a wide range of stakeholders.
Guidelines
1. Business activities
Kajima shall understand and properly manage the dependence and impact on biodiversity and natural capital as well as risks and opportunities associated with them for the entirety of its business activities including its supply chain.
2. Area characteristics
Kajima shall properly understand the state of the local area and, while utilizing its scientific knowledge and technology, develop a comprehensive response for the conservation and restoration of biodiversity as well as local issues and address them through various means such as Nature-based Solutions (NbS).
3. Genetic resources
Kajima shall ensure the appropriate use of genetic resources and fair profit distribution, and comply with international frameworks and the Japanese legal system.
4. Mitigation of losses
Based on the notion that conservation and restoration of biodiversity must be carried out on the site of business activities, Kajima shall work with local communities, avoid or minimize losses of biodiversity, and recover and restore the functions of the ecosystem.
5. Social actions and awareness-raising activities
Kajima shall actively engage in social contributions and awareness-raising activities by leveraging the knowledge and networks gained through its business operations to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
