Working jointly with Sanwa Sekisan Co. and Tokai University, we have developed both Cem R³—a cement manufactured from recycled, unused ready-mix concrete that would otherwise be sent back to the plant it came from—as well as Eco-Crete R³, a concrete made from this cement. By reusing concrete that would normally be mostly discarded, we have created a more sustainable concrete-manufacturing cycle. About 6,000 m³ of Eco-Crete R³ was used to construct a multiuse building in Fujisawa, Japan, that houses a community center and worker support center. As a result, we were able to reduce the amount of concrete waste by around 600 tons and cut CO₂ emissions produced during the concrete-manufacturing process by around 480 tons.
