Kajima announces the launch of its metaverse during the topping out ceremony of its regional HQ, The GEAR

On June 17, 2022, Kajima commemorated the topping out of The GEAR with a ceremonial concrete pour on the roof of the building to mark the completion of the structure and unveiled The GEAR Metaverse, a virtual environment where people enter a digital re-creation of The GEAR building as online avatars. The GEAR Metaverse allows individuals to experience hyper-realistic surroundings that match the physical surroundings of The GEAR building. As Kajima’s state-of-the-art regional headquarters and R&D hub, The GEAR: Kajima Lab for Global Engineering, Architecture and Real Estate, will be equipped to serve as an open and collaborative platform aimed at facilitating experimentation, exploration, and co-creation, on both physical and digital mediums.

The GEAR Metaverse will enable Kajima to stay connected with the wider built environment community in a seamless, convenient, and high-touch manner – regardless of where these stakeholders are physically located.

“Even as we move into an endemic state, social norms and practices have invariably been influenced by what we have become accustomed to with lockdowns and social distancing. It is therefore incumbent upon us embrace new modes of communication, mimicking as much as possible a physical connection in a virtual world,” said Keisuke Koshijima, EVP, Kajima Corporation, in a virtual address delivered in The GEAR Metaverse.

The ceremony was the first gathering of over 100 persons organized by Kajima in Singapore since the pandemic. It was an opportunity to reconnect with partners and collaborators over the networking session attended by c-suite executives from both the private and public sector. The ceremony was widely covered by local media, namely The Straits Times and Lianhe Zaobao, and by other partner organizations such as the Building and Construction Authority.

Guest of Honour of the Topping Out Ceremony Low Yen Ling, Minister of State for Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) said in her opening address that she was impressed by the Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD) which Kajima developed to improve pre-construction planning and efficiency. The impact of adopting the IDD framework was significant – notwithstanding the unprecedented challenges from the pandemic, the project remains on target to obtain TOP (Temporary Occupation Permit) in the first quarter of 2023 as planned.

On April 21, 2022, the completion ceremony for the MURATA NEW FACTORY & RELATED BUILDING PROJECT (Batangas, Philippines), which is being promoted by Philippine Manufacturing Co. of Murata, Inc., was held at the site, attended by project and construction personnel to celebrate the successful completion of the project.

This project is to build a facility to manufacture materials for Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors, one of Murata's product. The design concept is "The factory with Safety and realize Standardization and Specialization". So this new factory has three "S" of Safety, Standardization, and Specialized.

The plant is an RC, partly S, two-story structure with a total floor area of 42,475 m², designed by our overseas subsidiary, Kajima Design Asia, and constructed by Kajima Philippines, Inc.

The project faced unprecedented circumstances, including a three-month site shutdown and long-term work restrictions due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, but all parties involved worked together to complete the project and concept.

"SPV Management Company of the Year" in the Company/Team category was awarded in recognition of the exceptional work by the Asset Management team on over 20 PPP/PFI projects in their portfolio.

Additionally, our Social Housing PPP Programme Bundle Two in the Republic of Ireland won the "Best Social Infrastructure Project" in the Project category, along with our partners in consortium.

In June 2022, "77 Coleman", redeveloped by Kajima Properties, our real estate development subsidiary in the UK, received an award for Best City Refurbishment/Regeneration City at the "OAS Development Awards”, that is judged by the real estate agents, recognising excellence in the office development across the wider UK and City of London & West End Markets.

77 Coleman is located in the centre of the city of London, and is a fully refurbished rental office building offering a high-specification, design-led office space alongside retail and leisure amenities for a new generation of tenants with 6 floors and 2 basement floors and a rentable area of 7,596m². In addition it also provides a new public street connecting two streets in the City.

Indochina Kajima Development Company (IKD), a joint venture founded by Indochina Capital and Kajima Development in 2016, has launched an industrial brand “Core5 Vietnam”. Owned by KUSA, Core5 Industrial Partners is a US-based industrial real estate property company with expertise in development of Class-A properties.

Vietnam is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies and is underpinned by strong fundamentals, namely a large, young, and growing population. IKD plans to roll out a collection of world class industrial assets across Vietnam’s Key manufacturing and logistics markets. Also, IKD offers a one-stop service aiming to ensure clients a soft landing for their new market entry into Vietnam. Key services include development and construction consultations from project managers, facility management advice from operational professionals, and licensing support to ensure timely business setup so manufacturing and logistics companies can launch their businesses quickly.

Current portfolio of IKD covers 90 ha of land including 7 projects in North Vietnam and 1 project in the South Vietnam. Core5 Vietnam’s first project in Vietnam, located in a prime location within Deep C Hai Phong 2, will offer nearly 90,000 m² of net leasable area to the market. Construction of this project will commence soon and handover of the first factories will be in Q1 2023.

Wink Hotel Saigon Centre, having opened in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in March 2021, recently won the Bronze Award for Best Green Development of MIPIM Asia Awards 2021.

MIPIM, namely, Marché International des Professionnels de l'Immobilier, is a world's leading real estate exhibition and networking platform, and MIPIM Asia Awards are to honor annually the most outstanding real estate projects in each specific field in the Asia Pacific region.

Wink Hotel Saigon Centre was developed by Indochina Kajima Development, a joint venture company founded by Indochina Capital and Kajima Development in 2016. The Hotel is the first of "Wink Hotels", Vietnam's first homegrown hospitality brand characterized by chic and creative design, deep functionality, and traditional Vietnamese values. The Hotel obtained the LEED Gold certificate as a high-performance green building, which is highly regarded by MIPIM Asia.

Kajima Development Pte. Ltd. (KD), Kajima's Asian real estate business headquarters, won "Top 10 Developers 2021 (Singapore) Award" by BCI Media Group. Mr. Shuichi Oishi, President of KD, received a commemorative shield plaque at the annual award ceremony held in Singapore on September 1, 2021.

BCI Media Group, specialized in providing information on construction and real estate business in Asian countries, hosts BCI Asia Awards in Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, and awards 10 developers and 10 architects in each region that contribute to sustainable construction. The award started in 2003 and is considered as one of the most recognized awards in the construction and architectural design industries in Asia.

KD started the development of "The GEAR", Kajima's Asian headquarters building in Singapore, in 2019. The award was conferred to KD for The GEAR project in recognition of its sustainability and wellness considerations.
